Over the last fifty years or so the car has gone from a luxury item to a basic utility item. When I was a kid everybody was aware of the latest designs and people argued about what is best. People used to look forward to going out for a drive in the country, but all that happens is you get caught on the conveyer belt of a motorway and you simply get caught in traffic. Yes car makers have made great progress in the dynamics of car design. They handle better, they brake better; they have better ergonomics resulting in safer interiors. Governments have introduced speed limits and drink driving restrictions and so on and so forth. But accidents continue.
I think there is something about the human mind that shuts out risk and for every improvement in safety then people seem to drive just that little bit more aggressively or what have you. As a result nobody seems to think about the implications of being involved in an accident. They have insurance and think that will be the end of it. Actually many people drive around without insurance at all which adds to the risks of driving especially if you only have third party insurance. Even then they only think about motor repair cost and are loath to think about the consequences of being hospitalized.
Where is all this leading? Well the truth is that Insurance companies like any other corporations are more interested in their bottom lines than they are your family’s welfare. They have large legal departments that are dedicated to paying out the least possible amounts. If they can get away with it they won’t pay you anything at all. You as a normal citizen will be at a big disadvantage if you want to challenge any decisions by insurance companies. What resources do you have at hand and what experience do you have in legal matters. May I suggest you should be prepared for this eventuality just in case.
